The NSS Unit of Little flower college Guruvayoor is a group of energetic and vibrant, hardworking, dedicated young ladies .It has a history of long year’s .The NSS activities of the academic year (2014-15) started with world environment day observation. On 4th June 2014 NSS team with the co-coordinator visited Chavakkad Municipal chairperson and made necessary arrangement for the ‘Harithasree’ programme initiated by Kerala Govt.
On 5th June 2014, NSS Volunteers went to Santhitheeram beach at Chavakkad and planted seedlings there in collaboration with Chavakkad Municipality and Harithasree project of Kerala Forest Department.At the same time some volunteers planted seedlings in the college camps which was inaugurated by Principal Rev.Dr.Sr.Treesa Dominic.
In relation with ‘vayanavaram’ NSS conducted many programmes in the campus and outside the campus. The different activities were inaugurated by Prinicipal, Dr.Rev.Sr.Treesa Dominic on 18th July.“Akshari Brasooka” was arranged in the college portico. It gave a chance to all to write down their favorite Malayalam words and words which are not in use. Akshari Brasooka was inaugurated by Principal Rev.Dr.Sr.Treesa Dominic. Many staff and students participated in it very enthusiastically.
On 19th July Rev. Sr. Jeesma Therese (Asst. Prof. History Department& previous year NSS programme officer) delivered and excellent talk on the importance of reading .On 20th June 2014, a vayanamalsaram was conducted for the interested students and prizes were distributed. On 23rd June 2014, Malayalam literature quiz was organized for all students and students actively participated in it .A’Kavyamelam’ was directed by Rev. Sr. Celine Therese (Asst. Prof. Malayalam Department) and it was a nice experience to all. Malayalam Literature quiz competition was conducted for the interesting students. For the conclusion of vayanavaram, NSS unit conducted a programme at CRUP SCHOOL Kottappadi .During that function, Headmistress T. J. Mercy teacher presided and Mr.Stanly Chiriyankandath (PTA President) made the inauguration.NSS Programme officer Rev.Sr.J.Bincy felicitated the function.NSS volunteers presented stories and poetries in the function and made interaction with students and taught them many stories and poetries.
During the month of July, NSS team concentrated on vegetable gardening . On 1st July 2014, the third years cleaned the garden and planted peas there. Awareness Class on the topic green kerala in connection with “Vanamaholsava varam “ was conducted under the direction of Rev. Sr. Vincy Tom, HOD of the dept. of Botany. Five NSS volunteers attended a seminar at St.T homas College Thrissur on 23rd July 2014 in relation with Green Thrissur Project. On 30rd July a motivation talk was given to the NSS volunteers by Sr. J. Bincy, the Programme officer
An introductory talk was given to the new volunteers by Miss Sobhitha Joy on 1st August. Two NSS volunteers attended a seminar at Thrissur conducted by NSS District coordinator K.N.Ramesh.
Independence day celebration was conducted in collaboration with the Collge Union, competitions and cultural programmes were conducted by the NSS Volunteers. Karshakadinam was observed with inauguration of vegetable garden and vegetable seeds were distributed the Principal by t to the students (by the Krishi bahavan,Pookod).
Inauguration of NSS activities for the year 2014-2015 by Sri.K.N.Ramesh the former co-ordinator of NSS,Calicut University and provided a talk on ‘NSS and personality Development”
ASAP orientation class to 1st year students held at college auditorium on 21st Aug 2014. Legal service cell conducted a class based on the topic Anti-ragging on 27th Aug 2014. Sat Bhavana day was observed with a positive speaking delivered by Sr.Dani C.Francis, Assistant professor,Dept of English.
The preparation for 7 days NSS special camp was made on 26th Aug .Groups was formed and motivation class was conducted by the 3rd year NSS volunteers on 28th Aug. Some of the volunteers visited the camp site with Rev .Sr.J.Bincy and made necessary arrangement for the camp .During these days NSS volunteers prepared notice and invitation of the camp and distributed in the campus and invited the guests.
NSS volunteers celebrated Onam, the festival of prosperity was with the inmates of old age home and Dementia center at Kottapadi on 1st Sep. They spent time with the old people and performed some cultural programme there.
Welcome committee was formed and discussions were held with the local representative Mr. Anto Thomas and ward councilor Smt.Rosy Teacher. . NSS Special camp for seven days was conducted at Vazhappilly in ward No 41.53 volunteers participated in the camp and it was a good experience to the volunteers as well as the local people.NSS volunteers got the support of the local people in all the events .A socio-economic survey , house construction ,vegetable gardening,Bala kairali etc were different projects of the camp . A blood donation camp with the help of IMA THRISSUR was a different experience to the volunteers. Rasya Ravindren and Novely M Joy were selected as the best Camper and best worker respectively.
In relation with world Alzheimer’s Day, a seminar was conducted in the college auditorium and a memory walk was done to Guruvayoor municipality office in collaboration with “Kottappadi Dementia Center and Kunnamkulam .On 23rd a discussion was led at the guide ship of Rev .Sr. J.Bincy .NSS programme officer about the commitment of the NSS Volunteers towards the society. The programme officer Rev .Sr. J.Bincy attended the meeting at the Municipality in relation with Swatch Bharath Abhiyan. The programme officer attended the POs meeting at University .Motivation an awareness class by the senior students-Hridhya ranklin,Aswathy.N,Sonia .Experience sharing by them motivated the volunteers to a great extent.
On 2nd Ocotober, being Gandhi Jayanthi was a working day all the students gathered in the auditorium and took this oath to clean India and to make India clean.NSS volunteers planned many activities to be a part of the cleaning mission. As a part of this cleaning mission,NSS volunteers and other students clean the various part of municipality such as KSRTC Bus stand,railway station ,Taluk hospital,nearby roads etc
Alpha palliative care center conducted a road show for the Endosulphan victims and during their journey.They visited LF campus on 10thoct.Principal Rev.sr.Dr.Treesa dominic,NSS PO Sr.J Bincy and students cordially welcomed them and they showed a student documentary film and that subjected of palliative care.
On14th Oct, NSS volunteers cleaned the front area of college for the purpose of vegetable gardening with Bhoomithra club. 30 NSS volunteers went to Thrissur Mental Hospital for one day social service. On 20th oct NSS volunteers visited the adopted village ward-33 and cleaned the road.
NSS Unit of our college cooperated with college union and the Dept of Sanskrit in the celebration of the Odissi festival by the Orissa Children.
National Integration week was observed with a variety of progrmmes. Poster and extempore speech competitions were conducted for all students. A seminar on the topic National Integration and Social Commitment was arranged for the staff and students. The talk was delivered by Smt.Sony T.L, Assistant Professor, Govt.College Kuttanellur and also the National Award Winner of Best programme officer of NSS Unit. A meeting was arranged to honor and appreciate her for excellent performance and success.
World AIDS Day was observed with an awareness seminar oath taking. The seminar was presented by Dr. Sr. Merley Madakkai, physician, St.Antonies Mission Hospital. The seminar enlightens the students with knowledge about the acquired immune deficiency syndrome, and its cures. The seminar highlighted the message “prevention is better than cure”.
