Compulsory Social Service Scheme is introduced for articulating the theoretical knowledge of students with practical knowledge and experience. It is with the intension of developing social outlook and voluntariness for service among students, Calicut University had made social service compulsory for obtaining the first degree.
The new generation should gain the training to take up challenging social assignments. This new knowledge which can not be gained from classrooms, no doubt, will make the higher education more meaningful and effective. The programmes will be distributed during the entire period of course, normally 14 days in each academic year for the three-year degree course but need not exceed 42 days in the entire period of study.
Programmes are usually done in collaboration with local authorities like Municipalities, Village, Panchayath and Voluntary Agencies like Rotary club, I.M.A, Lions club, Red Ribbon Club etc.
