ABOUT LITTLE FLOWER COLLEGE

Taking into consideration the necessity and the scope for a women’s college in South Malabar, Little Flower College was started at Guruvayoor on 1st July 1955 as a Second Grade College. It was raised to a first grade college with the commencement of B.Sc Mathematics and B.A Economics Courses in March 1957. Although the college started under the University of Madras, it was later affiliated to the University of Kerala in June 1957 and subsequently to the University of Calicut in July 1968. Little Flower College is a Christian College established and administered by the Assisi Province of the Franciscan Congregation and coming under the religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Thrissur. Though a minority college meant primarily for Catholics, it is open to students of all castes and creeds.

To achieve the holistic development of the young women rooted in faith in God and imbued with righteousness and conviction to grow into mature, responsible and socially committed citizens of the country.

OUR VISION

To be a Centre of Excellence for learning, to soar the heights of intellectual competence, to achieve moral uprightness and social commitment and to empower women. The college tries to accomplish the mission by providing education to women irrespective of caste and creed. It strives to inculcate in the students, a sound philosophy of life based on faith in God, respect for the individual and concern for the less privileged.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dr. Mary N.K. (Rev.Dr.Sr.Maria Victor) took charge as Principal on 1st April 2009 on the retirement of Dr.Sr. Cicil. She has been working in the Dept of Zoology since 1982. After her M.Phil in 1990, she was awarded Ph.D in 2003 and became Reader in the same year. She served as the Vice-Principal during the period 2006-2009.

It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction to recount God’s innumerable mercies on the institution during the current academic year (2009-2010). He has led us from success to success. Little Flower College soars the heights of academic excellence aiming at the holistic development of socially committed, intellectually competent and spiritually inspired young women.

St. Little Flower, our Patron Saint, continues to drop down roses of blessings on us, as we “Launch out into the deep” in search of valuable treasures, in our endeavour to empower and enlighten women through education.

Educational Policies

Education in its true sense should comprise besides the acquisition of knowledge, the formation of an ideal character by bringing body, mind and heart under discipline and by developing everything that is good and beautiful in human nature. Hence it should be the earnest endeavour of every student to cultivate high and noble ideals of life and conduct. She should be gentle and refined in behaviour, polite and courteous in manners and neat and modest in dress and deportment.

To translate this vision and commitment into action Little Flower College For Women seeks:-
• To develop in its students the ability to think logically, critically and creatively and the ability to communicate effectively
• To produce intellectually well-trained, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired for the India of today.
• To develop socially conscious and socially involved individuals who can and will act responsibility in relation to themselves and to others and who will give leadership in social and political affairs; and to remain a centre of wisdom and knowledge radiating universal love and human empowerment beyond the limits of Socio –economic, religious, caste and gender prejudices
