WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Department of Zoology was established in 1957 offering undergraduate course in Zoology. Since then, the department continued to raise its bar achieving several laurels on the way. Our pivotal goal is to impart students with a holistic development besides academics to live a righteous life. Strongly inspired by our patron saints St. Little Flower and St. Francis of Assisi, we make our students self-reliant and compassionate to make value-based contributions to the society.

 What makes us unique is the natural locale of our campus, home to widespread birds and small animals seemingly ubiquitous. In this natural setting an attraction towards Mother Nature is inevitable which underlines our students’ environmental awareness. Zoology happens to be one of the oldest departments in this college. To make the subject colorful, we organize many field trips, institutional visits and nature camps to promote the academic and other cognitive skills to assimilate with Mother Nature. We organize international and national seminars on topics like biodiversity, environmental issues, wildlife, aquaculture, human health and well being and other pertinent issues by invited experts.

 Our crowning glory is its 100% results and A+ along with University ranks / positions besides the students dabbling in extracurricular activities. From 2015, a new Post Graduate Course in Zoology with Aquaculture and Fishery Biology as elective was started as self-financing course.

Department offers B.Sc. Zoology ( regular) with a sanctioned strength of 36 seats and M.Sc .Zoology (Self financing) with a sanctioned strength of 10 seats with a marginal increase of 6. Also offers complementary course for B.Sc Botany main stream students. The open course offered by the department for Vth Semester UG students in the topic ‘Reproductive Health ad Sex Education’.

The department has two well established labs, a neatly maintained Museum, a staff room with computer, slide cabinet, chart cabinet, insect cabinet, separate reading room for faculty and students and a department reference section. The department is well equipped with modern instruments like UV- Spectrophotometer, Electronic balance, Chromatographic apparatus, homogenizer, slide projector, Binocular stereo zoom microscope, etc.
